Dance Info:

We host regular contra dances on the second and fourth Saturday's of each month. Beginner's lesson starts at 7:30 and the dance starts at 8:00.

Everyone -- beginner and experienced -- is invited to join our welcoming and family-friendly community and enjoy this lively, traditional social dance. No partners are necessary. All dances are taught with walk-throughs.

First timers get their 2nd dance free. Be sure to ask for your coupon at the door! New dancers may also want to go to the "information for beginners" page to learn more about what to expect/

Admission is:
$5 for students
$7 seniors

$10 for adults
$25 maximum for families

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for dancing.

Water is available, but in an effort to help the environment, we do not provide cups.  We encourage everyone to bring a reusable water bottle.

While dances usually have a live band playing, we will likely be dancing to recorded music. This is a cost saving measure in place as we continue to rebuild from the pandemic pause.

Hope to see you there!

We lost 2 huge influences in the Chattanooga traditional dance community in 2020.
Sid Hetzler started the CTDS in the early 1990's. After producing dances with the CTDS Sid went on to run Split Tree Farm Participatory Arts Center and host the annual Fools Fest dance weekend. He allowed the CTDS to hold many 5th Saturday dances at STF that involved spending the night having breakfast and dancing Sunday morning.
Roy Harding revived the CTDS in 1996 after moving to Chattanooga from Atlanta and he was a fixture on the organizing committee for many many years. Roy lived very near the current dance venue and would come to the dance from time to time to chat when unable to dance.
Without Sid and / or Roy there may have never been contra dancing in Chattanooga.
Lets dance one for Roy and Sid!
I know that they would both like that!
